Although...after a decade of trying to break into romance, I took a few years off. By the time I came back, young adult was a market again (it was pretty much nonexistent in the 90s unless you wanted to do work-for-hire for a book packager). While trying to get published in YA, I was told my voice was better suited to middle grade...and that was how I finally got published.
